VCCS Computer and Internet Use Policy

Most computers within the VCCS are attached to a college local area network, and now are connected to the Internet. This high level of connectivity has many advantages as you will discover as you use the many features of the VCCS network and explore the internet. But connectivity also requires that users of the network understand their responsibilities in order to protect the integrity of the system and the privacy of other users. The VCCS treats access to network resources as a privilege that is granted on a presumption that every member of the college community will exercise it responsibly. Do not use the VCCS network or e-mail in ways that reflect poorly on your college or violate college policies or state or federal laws. In addition, bear in mind that the Help Desk and the VCCU cannot be responsible for problems you may encounter at remote web sites.

Remember that as you utilize the network and its resources you are an ambassador representing the VCCS. The network resources of  your college should be used for job related activity similar to the requirements for official use of your telephone and as defined in the Information Technology Employee Ethics Agreement each user has reviewed. Also, the accessing of pornographic material and playing of games is specifically forbidden by state policy.

Your activity does have impact on other users since the various resources provided through the network are shared among all VCCS users. Good common sense generally provides adequate guidance in what is and is not acceptable use.

The Help Desk staff desires that you get the most of your college and network access. Problems or questions may be directed to Client Services via Issue Trak.
