V8 SIS Security Update – January 21, 2005
V8 SIS Security
Update – January 21, 2005
Below are important updates regarding security in v8.
UPDATES:
1. A video conference is scheduled for next week to promote ongoing
information sharing among the colleges and the ITS Security Office
regarding version 8 security migration planning and to provide an update
on the security migration project. The conference will originate from
the System Office and all colleges are asked to confirm their
participation with Pam Perdue (
PPerdue@vccs.edu ) and Ruthann Barton (
RBarton@vccs.edu ) via email so their site can be scheduled into the
conference. The conference will be held on January 27, 2004 from 2-3
p.m. Call Pam Perdue at 804.819.4988 should you have any questions or
require additional information.
2. All College Information Security Officers have access to the shared
drive UT21/SISSEC. This is the drive where all security documents and
forms are stored and shared. If others at your college require access to
this documentation then it the ISO responsibility to provide it either
in print or electronic format. We would like to limit direct access to
this device.
3. Please encourage your users who have access to SIS to not change
their passwords in the v7.6 instances. Any password changes made after
November 10, 2004 will NOT be carried over to V8 and will appear in v8
as they were stored as of November 10, 2004. However any new accounts
created in v7.6 after this date will be manually maintained by the ITS
security staff.
4. Due to concerns raised by colleges, the current VCCS CUSTOM PANEL
access in v8 will be completely removed for all colleges and each
college will need to submit requests for all users requiring access with
the specific access permission list(s). The access will be removed
effective close of business January 21, 2005.
Please contact Pam Perdue (
PPerdue@vccs.edu ) or 804.819.4988 should you have any questions.
