SIS V8 Training: PeopleSoft On-site Courses
SIS Deployment Chairs,
In accordance with the SIS Version 8 Upgrade Training Plan, VCCS ITS is pleased to offer PeopleSoft On-site Training. ITS will cover Training Unit, facility, and instructor costs for one college attendee per subject; this attendee should become the college trainer on the course material, in a train-the-trainer approach. Each course will be offered during multiple sessions, and we will attempt to spread them around the state to alleviate some travel time and costs.
Colleges wishing to send additional students may do so, and will be IAT’d by the VCCS for their portion of training units, facility, and instructor costs. Please keep in mind, if you commit to enrolling additional students, the VCCS may incur training unit, instructor, and facility costs if you cancel your enrollment, and will IAT those costs regardless of cancellation.
Please review the course offerings below, and respond to Imad Abi-Falah of VCCS Client Services (iabi-falah@vccs.edu) no later than Tuesday, January 18, regarding the number of students you wish to enroll in each class, and any black-out dates you wish us to consider. Please be aware that due to the Oracle acquisition of PeopleSoft, the combined company will not be able to provide any on-site training prior to January 28. For this reason, we will need to fit our courses into the month of February, and do not have a large degree of flexibility for class dates.
Please see course list below for planning purposes. If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Mitchell (jmitchell@vccs.edu).
VCCS ITS is planning to offer the following courses:
348 Crystal / Query for Student Admin 8 (2 days, Cost: roughly $600/day)
This is a combination of Query Basics and Crystal Basics on a Student Administration database focusing on practical examples using Student Administration data. Learn how to generate basic SQL queries using PeopleSoft Query. Learn the basics of joining records using predetermined relationships between tables. You will also learn how to set up run-time prompts that enable you to prompt users for input when they are running queries. On the second day, you will see how to use your queries built in the PeopleSoft Query tool and send this information to Crystal Reports for formatting. Using Crystal Reports version 8, you will explore how to lay out a report, sort data, format text and data, and insert graphics. You'll also learn how to customize reports by incorporating control breaks and totals.

481 PeopleTools I / PeopleTools II Accelerated 8.44 (5 days, Cost:
roughly $950 / day)
This intensive 5-day course will cover select chapters from the PeopleTools I course and the PeopleTools II Course.
PeopleTools I will offer an overall understanding of PeopleSoft's systems architecture and the uses of the Tools to customize existing PeopleSoft Applications as well as creating new applications. In addition to working with PeopleTools, the student will have a basic understanding of Relational Databases, PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, PeopleSoft's methodology of transporting newly created applications to the Web. The student will have hands-on experience with the Application Designer in creating Fields, Records, Pages, Components, and Web based menus.
The PeopleTools II course is an advanced look at a set of interactive tools used to develop and implement custom applications for the Internet. This section builds on the skills acquired during PeopleTools I. Students will focus on meeting application development requirements by applying sophisticated customization techniques. Through applying the ten steps of customization to a variety of scenarios, students will gain hands-on development experience and learn much of the "behind the scenes" operation of PeopleTools. They will learn how to design applications which will run smoothly and efficiently on the Internet. Students will also get exposed to the PeopleCode language by learning how to write simple PeopleCode programs.
Course Objective
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
| Identify and define PeopleTools 8.1 Internet Architecture and terminology. | |
| Navigate through the Application Designer and Web Browser. | |
| Define relational database theory (normalization) and the physical layout of Entity Relationship Diagrams. | |
| Identify and discuss the Nine Steps of Application Development. | |
| Create internet applications. | |
| Create views. | |
| Modify search records. | |
| Create web pages using pushbuttons, hyperlinks, subpages, and secondary pages. | |
| Access URL, SQL, and Message repositories. | |
| Implement table-set sharing. |
Audience
Database and Security Administrators, Technical staff responsible for
application configuration; anyone who would be involved with the design
process of PeopleSoft Applications.
Please Note: In addition to any prerequisites listed below, the Navigating PeopleSoft 8 Pre-Class Tutorial is also required before attending this course. Knowledge of SQL is strongly recommended.

400 PeopleCode / SQR Accelerated rel. 8.44 (5 days, Cost: roughly $975/day)
This fast-paced, intensive course focuses on the essentials of two programming languages that are integral to PeopleTools: PeopleCode and SQR. You will rapidly cover the topics found in the PeopleCode and SQR courses (but not to the same level of detail). Throughout the week, you will be designing, coding, and testing a number of programs in both PeopleCode and SQR.
The demanding pace of this course requires a high-level of familiarity with SQL and structured programming languages and Microsoft Windows. If you do not have programming and Microsoft Windows experience, we recommend that you take PeopleCode and SQR separately to get the greatest benefit from your training.
The PeopleCode course gives you the essential tools to work with object-oriented PeopleCode. You actively build skills that assist in programming in a PeopleSoft environment. The tools and skills learned in this course give you a grounding in the structure of PeopleCode and prepare you to move on to more advanced applications
The SQR course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to use the SQR programming language for reporting and batch processing. The course emphasizes the importance of the database structure and SQL, and how they are used in the SQR programming environment. In addition, you examine more complex formatting features and learn how to add robust input/output functionality to SQR programs. The course provides you with practical solutions to enforcing business rules.
Course Objective
